Enlightening the Nanoworld

Enlightening the Nanoworld

What happens beyond what your eyes can see? It’s the year of the periodic table! Let’s celebrate by diving into the magical properties of the chemical elements that are present in all aspects of everyday life and explore the nanoworld.

AI in Drug Design

AI in Drug Design

Using a mixture of 2D and 3D models, participants will learn it is that drugs are the right shape to fit into disease-causing enzymes and proteins. Artificial Intelligence is helping scientists do this more efficiently.

Dark Side of the Downs

Dark Side of the Downs

Have a go with our Dark Skies Virtual Reality Headsets and complete our giant floor jigsaw! Discover more about our Dark Night Skies and what South Downs National Park is doing to protect them for the future.

Communicating with the Brain

Communicating with the Brain

Neurons create perception and drive behaviour through their language consisting of changes in electrical state. Neuroscientists are becoming able to communicate with lots of neurons simultaneously and interpret their codes in real time. This may revolutionise our capacities for controlling devices, boosting intelligence, and connecting brains – but with what consequences?

Draw the Future You!

Draw the Future You!

Join artist Victoria Snazell and draw your future self, doing the things that you love! Maybe you visualise a happier future for our planet, and can imagine ways of taking us all a step closer to making it happen. Your pictures will be displayed on an exhibition wall, and/or you can take them home.

Webb Space Telescope

Webb Space Telescope

See yourself through the eyes of the Webb Space Telescope - in Infrared light!  Come and see our Webb Space Telescope model, and learn how astronomers at the University of Sussex (and around the world) will be using the successor to the Hubble Space Telescope, once launched in 2021.

LIVE inside the human body

LIVE inside the human body

Did you know that ultrasound is due to become the stethoscope of the future? We explore how ultrasound can see into the wonders of the human body and how this is enabling fast and accurate clinical diagnosis and treatment for patients. We also discuss how and why we still teach using the amazing generosity of human donors. Activities will include ultrasound demonstration and the chance to see into your body, to see some bones, muscles, arteries and veins in your wrist.

Curiscope

Curiscope

See inside the Human Body! We will be demoing our product Virtuali-Tee to visitors that allows you to see inside the Human Body on a Human Body!

Quantum Cooling

Quantum Cooling

The world of quantum mechanics can be pretty weird at times. Schrodinger's cats can be both alive and dead at the same time and spooky communication at a distance messed with Einstein's brain. However, some of the underlying concepts are remarkably simple. Our mission is to show you one of these - how we can cool atoms with lasers.

Touching Sound

Touching Sound

There is only one cooler thing than Dr Brown's Flux capacitor. It's called ultrasonic mid-air haptics! We cannot hear ultrasound, but we can feel it touching our hands. In a quick game, I will show you how. You and your opponent will be asked to feel tactile shapes in mid-air, created by ultrasound, and determine the correct the correct order of appearance.

Virtual Reality Taster

Virtual Reality Taster

We're hosting a variety of Virtual Reality games and experiences from GOVR café and local developers. Showcasing the most interesting alternative projects currently being developed in the Brighton scene. Learn about the world of virtual reality whilst you create and play!

Deadline.live - Join the movement

Deadline.live - Join the movement

Introducing the world's first intelligent medical ID bracelet. Explore an innovative personal safety app & prototype medical ID wearable to demonstrate the value of integrating new technology with old ideas.

The Night Garden

The Night Garden

This interactive activity invites participants to dress as a moth and explore how they forage inside 'the night garden'! We will be exploring themes such as plant evolution and the implications of artificial light at night. There will also be a seed giveaway so you can plant your own moth-friendly night garden!

How To Save The Planet

How To Save The Planet

How To Save The Planet (And Save Money) By Saving Energy In Your Home. To avoid major climate change, the world must transition to a more sustainable use of energy. Using our LED lightbox and Electronic Playground BHESCo will demonstrate how households can take simple measures to reduce energy bills and carbon emissions. We will also be handing out free energy saving goodie bags.

Species of the Future

Species of the Future

Every species has its own unique scientific name, usually made up of greek or latin words that describes what it looks like, where it lives, or what is interesting about it. Participants will make their own special species in this fun card and drawing game.

Build a Torch

Build a Torch

Learn the basics of electronic circuits and Light Emitting Diodes by building a torch that you can take home!

Magic mirror on the wall...

Magic mirror on the wall...

... are we biased by smell at all? Our experiment aims to test associations between scents and multi-sensorial features. We will ask participants to smell different scents. For each scent, visual, tactile, auditory and gustatory scales will be presented. They will complete the task using a 3D scale.
